Bangkok has two airports: Suvarnabhumi (BKK) for most international flights, and Don Mueang (DMK) for budget airlines like AirAsia and Nok Air. Both have good connections to the city.
From Suvarnabhumi (BKK)
Airport Rail Link (ARL) — the fastest and cheapest option. Trains run every 10-15 minutes from the basement level to Phaya Thai station (where you can transfer to BTS Skytrain) in 30 minutes. Costs 15-45 THB depending on your stop. Operates 5:30 AM to midnight.
Taxi — metered taxis from the official taxi stand on level 1. Insist on the meter. The ride to central Bangkok (Silom, Sukhumvit, Khao San) takes 30-60 minutes depending on traffic and costs 250-400 THB plus tolls (typically 25-75 THB for expressway tolls, which you pay). Add the 50 THB airport surcharge. Total: 350-550 THB. Avoid touts who approach you inside the terminal — use the official queue downstairs.
Grab — order from the designated Grab pickup area on level 1. Fixed price, no negotiation, usually 300-500 THB to central Bangkok. More expensive than a metered taxi but zero hassle.
From Don Mueang (DMK)
No rail link yet. Bus A1 goes to Mo Chit BTS station (30 THB, 20-40 minutes) — the cheapest option. Bus A2 goes to Victory Monument BTS (30 THB). Taxis are metered with a 50 THB surcharge, 200-350 THB to center. Grab works here too.
Between airports
A free shuttle bus connects Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang (45-60 min, show your connecting flight ticket). Alternatively, bus A1 + BTS + ARL connects them via public transit for about 80 THB total.
